Namaḥ śivāya gurave
Nāda-bindu-kalātmane,
Nirañjana-padaṁ yāti
Nityaṁ yatra parāyaṅaḥ

— HYP IV.1

Salutations to the nadam, which is the inner guide and the inner life, the dispenser of happiness to all! It is the inner guru appearing as nada, bindu and kala. One who is devoted to the inner guru, the nada, the inner music, obtains the highest bliss.
— HYP IV.1

Sanskrit audio pronunciation of Hatha Yoga Pradipika IV.1 provided by Manorama.

My computer talks to me and I talk to her. Her name is Siri and she uses mostly written language to communicate with me. She has a limited vocabulary – she doesn't seem to know any Sanskrit or yoga terms! There is something else missing from her responses. When she responds to me, there always seems to be a need to ask, "But, what do youmean?" Siri's words are always flat and unaffected. That will change someday. The level of communication now, is more like hitting a switch than creating understanding, but someday the computer might really begin to talk. The inflection or intonation of a word can reveal its true meaning. The large vocabulary of sounds that we make and how we make them carries a deeper level of meaning than words alone, revealing the meaning of a spoken phrase and the underlying intention. Sounds, like the click of the tongue, a hiss of breath, or vocalism communicate more than words alone and include a myriad of emotional, intentional, rhetorical, or emphatic subtleties.

Phoneticists, investigating the way mothers in various cultures communicate with sounds to their pre-verbal infants, found similar sounds used and recognized throughout the world. For all of us, our earliest experience of communication was through pure sound, stripped of any written language component or cultural junk, and filled with meaning. That pre-verbal vocabulary is alive and well – deeply imbedded in our speech.

All spoken language predates the written form of language. The written version of any language is a distillation of a much larger landscape of clicks, breaths, tonalities, utterances, expressions and gestures. In the distillation to a written form our huge vocabulary is reduced to a mere fraction of it's total. The primal language of sounds lives on in our spoken traditions, and we can benefit enormously from studying the underlying subtle content of our own words. Nada Yoga is the yoga of sound and vibration.

The first step in Nada Yoga is to become receptive. That means to conduct and resonate with the vibrations around us. Alan Watts would say that the first step is "to shut up, and listen. That's yoga!"

The world is made of sound, Nada Brahma, or the infinite vibrations of the one primal sound. The Sanskrit language organizes essential sound vibrations into a feel-able universe of direct experience of the subtle nature of existence. Sanskrit expresses the sound nature of a feeling or thing directly. The purpose for imbedding the sound essence of feelings and things into the language is so that we could experience it directly and often, and know the dimension of ourselves that is the same essence.

Like the subtle sound messages in our various spoken languages, Sanskrit also contains an unwritten vocabulary of tones, breaths, cadences, and emphasis that create real communication. My teacher would shake his head at my futile attempts to speak Sanskrit and say, "Your mouth is just not shaped correctly to be able to pronounce Sanskrit." The missing element may be my lack of emphasis and subtlety of sound, rather like Siri's English, my Sanskrit is flat and unaffected. (9 times fail - 10 times try!)

Fortunately we can't go wrong with the names of God. We are well practiced in the pronunciation of the various Sanskrit names of God, and we are expert at filling words with emotions of a universal language. We say "names" of God, but the Sanskrit soundis God, (not just the name of God.) When we conduct the sound - that is God, there is only one way to do it - by shaping the instrument, your body, in a specific way. Placing the tongue just so, and the lips at the correct attitude, giving the sound an upward direction, this is the asana of mantra. Repetition is important - as we resonate with the sound and hold that resonation, the form of God is experienced persistently. The form is the sound, and through the sound we experience the oneness of sound and form. We no longer have to rely on a description of God, we can experience directly.

The devotee calls out for God with subtle emotion and it is the emotional content of the sound that propels it to the Lord. We are all expert at emotions and we know how to call out to God with the full range of emotional possibilities. When your bodily awareness drops away and the pure sound remains, there is no longer a sound and a maker of sound – there is just sound. Sound is God!

Namaḥ śivāya gurave
Nāda-bindu-kalātmane,

— HYP IV.1

— HYP IV.1

Sanskrit audio pronunciation of Hatha Yoga Pradipika IV.1 provided by Manorama.

"MEET THE INNOVATORS...SHARON GANNON AND DAVID LIFE" (Yoga Journal, USA)
Jivamukti Yoga founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life, is one of the fastest growing and most highly regarded modern approaches to the ancient art of yoga. Sharon Gannon together with David Life have certified hundreds of students to teach the Jivamukti method through the intense one month residential 300 hour Teacher Training course which is offered each year in the US, Costa Rica and/or Europe/India. With their Yoga DVDs and the books "Jivamukti Yoga" (also translated into German, Russian & Italian), "The Art of Yoga", "Yoga and Vegetarianism", "Cats and Dogs are People, too!", "Simple Recipes for Joy", Sharon and David are changing the way that people view spirituality, life, themselves, each other, animals and the environment.

Sharon Gannon David LifeSHARON GANNON started her quest for liberation upon her birth on July 4th in Washington, DC. Sharon views art as a means for uplifting the soul and her artistic pursuits enriched the community by educating and inspiring. In 1984 she shifted her main focus from the performing arts to teaching yoga in the hope of giving practical methods that would benefit people more directly and immediately. Sharon has studied yoga since 1976 with many teachers around the globe, most notably with Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, Swami Nirmalanada, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, Swami Shankarananda, Shyam Das and Bhagavan Das. She brings a rare blend of scholarly study, artistic pursuits and a highly disciplined asana and meditation practice to her offerings as a teacher.

DAVID LIFE: Bios are hard for me to digest. The idea that a picture could be painted of me with some little list of factoids is untenable. The only thing that gives me credibility as a yoga teacher is the graceful association with my teachers. Sometimes I like to read bios because it tells me things about a person that I didn't know and to that end, here is a list of all the significant jobs that have come my way over the past 60 years, in order: Lawnmowing and snowshoveling, Paper delivery, Beer and Wine store stockboy, Forklift driver in Corrugated box company, Phone order taker, Dishwasher, Cafeteria manager, Welder in Steel MIll, Apartment building super, Silk screen production and designer, Graphic designer, Illustrator, Artist, Poet, Life Cafe owner, Yoga teacher, Bio writer!

Everyone is talking about Sharon & David's Jivamukti Yoga method….
“Sharon Gannon und David Life who founded their own yoga method called Jivamukti Yoga in the late 80ies and, with it, made Yoga for the first time ever socially acceptable for western urban dwellers. Among their students are Sting, Madonna, Christy Turlington and basically all other non-overweight famous american actors and musicians. Many speak about them as Gurus. With their mixture of old Indian tradition and modern lifestyle like rock music they were the ones who were majorly responsible for the Yoga boom, which from New York has long spilled over to Germany: Three million Germans are said to regularly practice Yoga these days ... in Berlin-Mitte it appear to be two million alone.'

"David Life looks like Iggy Pop, is widely tatooed, has an incredible power in his stringy tiny arms and the great luck to have a woman on his side who has a delphine blue streak in her black hair and who is radiating a mild wisdom that makes one want to start crying immediately as soon as she opens her mouth. With their headsets, the two contrive to get every hall to boil.... – Oh My Guru!"

▲▼ MORE INFO ON THE RETREAT LOCATION AND ACCOMODATION

Wild Woodstock Retreat

OUR LOCATION FOR THE YOGA CLASSES AND EVENTS:
Jivamukti Yoga co-founders Sharon Gannon and David Life open part of their home in Woodstock, NY (USA) for this special retreat. Here they have established the magical Wild Woodstock Forest Sanctuary which also holds a beautiful intimate yoga shala right next to their house where all yoga classes and events of this retreat will be held.

The Wild Woodstock Jivamukti Forest Sanctuary is a magical 125-acre sanctuary established in 2003 and located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains near Woodstock in upstate New York (about 2 hours north of New York City and 3.5 miles from downtown Woodstock).

The Sanctuary serves as a safe haven and unpolluted habitat for diverse plant and animal communities, including white tail deer, black bear, foxes, porcupines, possums, raccoons, turkeys, as well as a large variety of wild birds, fish, snakes and other reptiles and amphibians. In present culture, the word wild is usually used to mean "chaotic" or "disorganized," but the word actually means "living true to one's nature; not restrained, controlled or tamed by others." The quest for enlightenment is a quest for wildness—to return to the natural state in which we know ourselves as one with all that is and we live that truth fully.

Sharon Gannon often teaches that we can have anything we want so long as we are willing to provide it to others first. She and David Life live that teaching by having established and by maintaining the Wild Woodstock Jivamukti Forest Sanctuary, which is the country ashram for the Jivamukti Yoga School.

Wild Woodstock Retreat

YOUR ACCOMMODATION DURING THIS RETREAT will be provided in handpicked high quality properties/houses in the Woodstock area. All houses are shared (2 to 5 twin/double or single rooms in one property), i.e. you will share a common living area, a fully equipped self-catered kitchen and 1 to 3 bathrooms with up to 4-10 other retreat participants (depending on the size of the house, number of single rooms booked etc.). All properties and rooms are individual with their special treats so it is hard to compare them. We also offer a number of optional upgrades to the standard accommodation to better suit your individual requirements. Check registration form for details.

Wild Woodstock Retreat

BOARD DURING THIS REATREAT: All houses come with well equipment self-catered kitchens and are strictly vegan, i.e. no diary, egg or meat products may be brought into any of the houses.  The idea of this retreat is to also create a Satsang experience by cooking together delicious vegan meals in groups of likeminded vegan yogis. All houses will be equipped with a copy of Sharon Gannon’s cookbook “Simple Recipes for Joy”. For days/nights out, there are also some very nice vegan restaurants in Woodstock.

▲▼ GENERAL INFO ON THE YOGA PROGRAM & OTHER ACTIVITIES

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

BEING WILD, the underlying theme of this first of its kind retreat, in present culture, is usually used to mean "chaotic" or "disorganized". But the word actually means "living true to one's nature; not restrained, controlled or tamed by others". The quest for enlightenment is a quest for wildness - to return to the natural state in which we know ourselves as one with all that is and we live that truth fully. Reaching this state actually requires the oposite of "chaos" and "disorganization": A regular intensive yoga practice, not only asana wise but also by studying the other legs of yoga and having satsang with other like minded yogis and most importantly, your teachers.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

This is why we have designed this first ever Jivamukti Yoga Intensive Retreat in Woodstock in order to provide you the opportunity to immerse for up to two weeks in intensive dalily study and practice right from the source with the founders of the Jivamukti Yoga method. Every morning of this retreat, Sharon Gannon and/or David Life will teach a 4 hour intensive Jivamukt Yoga workshop from 10am to 2pm (ca. 3 hour asana practice and ca. 1 hour yoga philosophy teachings). These workshop style morning classes will be complemented by daily 2hour Jivamukti Yoga Open XL classes with Jivamukti Yoga Berlin director Anja Kuehnel and occassionally also other international Jivamukti Yoga teachers in the late afternoon and, occasionally Satsangs, Kirtans and other special events with Sharon Gannon, David Life, Anja Kuehnel and other presenters.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

Special Bonus Events: Approximately 1-2 times per week, we hope to offer special events in the late afternoon/evening, such as Satsangs or Kirtans or Yoga Philosophy lectures with Sharon Gannon, David Life and other presenters, which in some cases due to time constraints will be offered INSTEAD of the afternoon Open XL class (i.e. sometimes no Open XL class on special events days). Once during each of the two weeks of this retreat, we invite you to a Karma Yoga session to benefit the Wild Woodstock Forrest Sanctuary area. Exact daily schedule TBA at the retreat venue.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

Please note for your planning: On the arrival days there is NO morning class nor Q&A conference with Sharon Gannon and/or David Life, i.e. the first class on your arrival day is the afternoon class with Anja. This also applies if your arrival day is August 22 even though Sharon and David teach on this day in the morning, as this class is only for the people who also booked Part I of the retreat. On August 29 (final day), there is no evening class with Anja, last class on August 29 is the morning workshop with Sharon Gannon and/or David Life from 10am-2pm. As normal with renowned teachers like Sharon Gannon and David Life, the practice space included in this retreat strictly is the size of one regularly sized yoga mat (ca. 0,65x1,8m) only. All practice spots are marked and mats must be placed within the markers. You must bring your own yoga mat. The yoga room has blankets and straps for your use. It also has a limited number of blocks. If you anticipate using blocks, please bring your own, as we cannot guarantee to have enough for everyone.

Accept us both together, protect us both together, may our knowledge and strength increase together, may we not resent each other.

Dear ones,

I am thanking all of you for making an effort to create the time and space to be together! We hold precious and dear in our hearts whatever we put our energy into. It is 100% up to us. Life is pulling us in all these different directions. It is wonderful that we are all meeting here at Sharon ji's and David ji's beautiful home and at the sanctuary they have created for the animals, plants and us human people, and that all of us together get the chance to immerse into our practice in this beautiful natural environment which is supporting us on all levels.
Let us put all of our love into what we do! Let us always remind each other that this is what truly matters in life. To uplift each other, to enjoy each other's company, to learn from each other, to see the beauty in each moment and to be grateful for the gift of life. Putting our prāṇa in what we truly care about: to be as natural and loving as one can possibly be, taking rest in our true nature, to truly be free and to serve with each breath.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Love.
Anja

Doors open 30mins before the classes. Please respect the Wild Woodstock Forrest Sanctuary and its inhabitants by keeping the noise level down during checkin and by not arriving much earlier than the doors open. Please bring your own mat if possible, other props (blocks etc.) are available in limited quantity. Please make sure to park your car properly and follow the instructions of the parking attendant.

DIRECTIONS to Wild Woodstock Forest Sanctuary From NYC BY CAR:

Take exit #19 Kingston, Woodstock
After paying toll at Kingston exit, exit right onto Route 28, Pine Hill.
After about 7 min. turn right onto route #375 toward Woodstock (there is a clear sign at the intersection)
After about 5 min. you will come to a stop sign. Turn left toward "Bearsville.". You are now on Route 212.
You will drive through the town of Woodstock. Stay on the same road, Route 212. You will come to "Bearsville" (look for small 212 roadside sign on right or Bear Cafe on left)
Just after the Bear Cafe, turn right, following the signs for Route 212.

Call or check online for fares and schedule. Check the schedule before traveling, as there may be seasonal and holiday changes!

Woodstock Taxi phone# 845-679-7766
The bus from NYC can take you to Woodstock (10 minutes from the Sanctuary) or to Kingston (20 minutes from the Sanctuary). Then you would have to take a taxi to the Wild Woodstock Forest Sanctuary (3651 route 212, Shady, NY) or to the location you will be staying at.

Some buses from NYC go all the way to Shady, which is where the Wild WDST Forest Sanctuary is, but you have to purchase your ticket in NYC to Shady, then you have to let the bus driver know where to let you off when you ask him or her to stop. Tell the driver, "in Shady, just past Church Road, near an old red barn."

The old red barn will be on the right side of the road just after the first curve of an "S" curve past Church Road. There will be a red mailbox with the numbers 3651 and a black & white painted wooden cat on top of the mailbox, the cat is pointing across the road to our driveway. Next to our driveway at the entrance to the sanctuary will be a tall pole with a winged Siamese cat on top and a sign that says "LIFE/GANNON." Also look for a white and black painted sign that says "YOGA" Walk all the way to the top of the driveway.

We suggest for first time visitors that you take the bus to Woodstock and call the taxi to bring you to the Sanctuary and not tell the bus driver to take you to Shady as you may get lost.

▲▼ MORE INFO ON THAI YOGA MASSAGE

Thai Yoga Massage (Nuad Bo Rarn) is holistic therapy that has been an integral part of traditional Thai medicine for thousands of years. Thai massage blends elements of acupressure, Yoga, reflexology, physiotherapy, meditation, energy healing, chiropractic practices and Ayurvedic wisdom.

Traditional Thai Massage is based on the concept that life force (also known as prana, chi or energy flow) circulates throughout the body maintaining health and vitality. This life force - invisible currents that can be felt and experienced - is believed to run along approximately 72,000 energy lines or Sens, roughly equivalent to the meridians of Chinese acupuncture and to the Yogic and Ayurvedic Nadi channels. When this energy flow is blocked or restricted, sickness or disease may develop.

To clear these blockages Thai Massage combines the application of pressure (hands, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees) with manipulation, adjustment and muscle stretching to provide a comprehensive bodywork experience designed to improve overall health and well-being.

The combination of movements and focused awareness during a Thai massage session creates what looks like a slow, flowing dance between practitioner and client. Energy pathways are cleared, muscles are elongated, joints are mobilized, internal organs and all bodily functions are supported to move towards a more balanced state.

A little history
Traditional Thai Massage has its roots in the Indian systems of Yoga and Ayurveda. The legendary founder of Thai massage Jivaka Kumar Baccha was a physician to the Sangha, the order of Buddhist monks and nuns, at the time of the Buddha. The Thais call him Doctor Shivago and to this day honour him as "The Father of Medicine".

No 'tricks', no short cuts!!!

▲▼ BIO AND MORE INFO ON DECHEN THURMAN & ANJA KUEHNEL

Anja KühnelANJA KÜHNEL
is director of Jivamukti Yoga Berlin and an Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher. She discovered her passion for Jivamukti Yoga in 2000 while temporarly living in New York. Back then, she also met her teachers Sharon Gannon & David Life for the first time. Anja has been practicing yoga with teachers of various yoga styles and has traveled the world to do so. But in her heart, Anja knew immediately after her first Jivamukti class, that it was where she belonged. Anja has also been a long time student of Manorama. She teaches at the Berlin Jivamukti Yoga Center, is regularly invited as a guest teacher worldwide and leads the 800-hour Jivamukti Apprenticeship Teacher Training Program in Berlin.

Dechen Thurman DECHEN THURMAN
He's the brother of Uma and the son of Robert. He played Guildenstern in Michael Almereyda's "Hamlet" movie and Patrick Bateman in Gerald Fox' Bret Easton Ellis film. But more importantly, his unique form of bodywork - as in Yoga and massage - has won international praise in the last couple of years.

Dechen is a holistic healer based in New York City. He is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher at the New York Jivamukti Yoga School as well as a Certified Ohashiatsu Instructor. Dechen creates a delicious sense of playfulness in his yoga classes. His method of healing is derived from these revered schools.

Last summer, more than 200 yogis in one of the biggest Open-Air Yoga classes at the Berlin Yoga Festival were hooked by his teachings (despite the fact that Germany played the semi-final of the soccer world cup at the same time; cf. the article in the German Vital magazine here). This year, he is invited, among others, to teach at the New York Yoga Journal Conference, the Yoga Conference Germany and the Wanderlust Yoga Festival.

Growing up, Dechen's family was a multicultural pioneer in hosting such luminous Tibetan refugee scholars as Geshe Wangyal, Lama Govinda, Tara Tulku Rimpoche, Dr. Yeshe Donden and Gehlek Rimpoche. A paramount time in Dechen’s life as he learned to cultivate his meditation practice with the help of these brilliant scholars. He first met His Holiness the Dalai Lama at age seven in Dharamsala, India.

Dechen's first taste of Jivamukti Yoga came at the age of nineteen. His dance teacher at Playwrights Horizons, Maude Karlsonn (nicknamed the "Swedish Mistress of Pain" by classmates), gave him a flier with a photo of Sharon Gannon in side crow position and told him to go to 2nd ave. and practice there. It was love at first class. He frequently attended class, initially as a warm-up for acting rehearsals, later for refuge from the pressures of his identity. Jivamukti Yoga was instrumental in bringing Dechen home, so to speak, back to his family's deep roots in Buddhism. Many inexplicably good things would happen to him on such a punctual basis associated with Jivamukti that his life literally depended on it. The psychospiritual investigation that Jivamukti stimulated was fundamental to his success in acting and massage. Alongside his work as a Jivamukti Yoga teacher and healer, Dechen is an accomplished actor in film and theater. ▲▼ MORE INFO ON THE RETREAT CENTER AND ACCOMODATION

Anja KühnelTHE LOCATION:
Already for the 3rd time in a row, we are returning to a very special and remote place right on a secluded private beach on the Atlantic, meaning that we can jump into the ocean directly after yoga and can take our meals right one the beach everyday.

Nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys of La Gomera, defined on both sides by hilly slopes, the finca expands down to a beach of 500 metres length.

It is an idyllic retreat with a magic of its own and many lively contrasts. There is the elemental force of nature – we are situated right by the Atlantic whose rushing waves make up the finca's "sound-track". In the morning, you can enjoy the sunrise over the sea, in the evening the setting sun turns Mt. Teide on the neighbouring island Tenerife to gold – at 3718m it is Spain's highest mountain.

Italien

We will be staying in neatly restored old farmers' houses which were originally part of an old and remote banana plantation, that today has been converted to an organic farm which operates solely to provide the guests of the venue with fresh organic produce.

Italien

Surrounded by 10 hectars of organic plantation (actually the first recognized biological enterprise on La Gomera), most of the vegetables, herbs and fruits needed for feeding the guests are grown right on site. The hundreds of organically grown plants make sure that our fruit buffet is filled all year round with bananas, papayas, mangoes, mameys, dates, oranges, melons, avocados and strawberries – all these according to their different seasons. When the harvest surpasses the demand, juices and jams are produced.

We can eat outside during the entire retreat. One dining terrace is situated directly by the sea, the other one within the finca amongst mango trees and date palms. At mealtimes you help yourself to delicious dishes prepared by the Gomeran catering team with fresh products mainly from the Finca. Vegan dishes will be served throughout the week.

Italien

The vegetable garden supplies cucumber, tomatoes, courgettes, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, rucola, aubergines, pumpkins, green beans, red and green peppers, etc. More sensitive plants grow in our three large greenhouses.
This is only a small excerpt from the horticultural world of the finca. You can learn more about the history, the organisation, plants and trees on an optional botanical tour offered.

Italien

The best part, however, is the peaceful and remote location...the plantation can only be reached by boat or a 2 hour walk, which means that there are no roads, no hurry -- only the singing of birds, the whispering of the wind and the murmur of the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Italien

The journey to the plantation, which with multiple boat rides is itself a lot of fun, easily affords time for reflection. Immerse yourself! Guests arrive and depart exclusively in our own launches – our workforce also travel in this manner. Since the only other way is a narrow path which leads hikers to San Sebastian in about 2 ½ hours we are protected from unbidden guests. There is no road access. This means, our guests and their children can move freely and safely around the large Finca. Because of its remote situation it has always been necessary to install all essentials. The development from plantation to holiday village has raised the standard but the self-sufficient character remained, on an equally high standard.

DATUM: Sonntag, 18.10.15, 14.30 – 17:00

ORT: Jivamukti Yoga Mitte, Brunnenstr. 29

SPRACHE: Deutsch

No 'tricks', no short cuts!!!

WORKSHOP LANGUAGE: English. Participants should have a basic understanding of English as there will be no translation.

YOGA JOURNAL magazine has called her an innovator in yoga. VANITY FAIR gives her credit for making yoga cool and hip in the West. FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE praised her for having made yoga, for the first time ever, presentable to Western urban dwellers:

Three years after her hugely popular Jivamukti Workshop day and book premiere celebration, Jivamukti co-founder Sharon Gannon finally returns to Berlin for a very special 3-part Jivamukti Yoga workshop series. This event is not to be missed and, as in the past when Sharon came to Berlin, we do expect a good amount of people from all over Europe for a very special celebration of the Jivamukti community and satsang here in Berlin.

What to expect? We start on Thursday morning when you can enjoy the one-and-only chance to take a classic (yet slightly extended to 2 hours) Jivamukti Open class taught by the founder of the method in the more intimate Jivamukti Yoga Kreuzberg center. So we guess this could be called a Master class (meaning it is not for masters but open for all, but taught by masters). A rare chance to experience how a Jivamukti Open class is taught right from the source. As planned for all events of this extended weekend, after the asana practice there will be a ca. 1 hour Satsang/Q+A/Booksigning. The two 3-hour Jivamukti Yoga Workshops on Friday evening and Saturday morning with Sharon Gannon and Jules Febre will leave you blissed out and charged with new knowledge. Expect new inspiring input on yoga asanas taught the Jivamukti way (correctly;) but also new insights on the main philosophical aspects and yogic scriptures that Jivamukti Yoga is based on. But most of all, expect a vigorous asana practice that will leave you as blissed out and recharged as only Jivamukti Yoga can be. All of this direct from the source, the co-founder and main force behind Jivamukti Yoga: Sharon Gannon, this time accompanied by travelling Jivamukti master teacher Jules Febre.

This is undoubtedly THE highlight of 2015 for all European Jivamukti Yoga practitioners and teachers (and those interested in becoming such) as well as yogis and teachers of all other styles and backgrounds of yoga. A very special opportunity to dive deeply into the Jivamukti yoga method within 3 days, to connect with the international European Jivamukti Yoga satsang and a once of a lifetime opportunity to deepen your Asana practice, detoxify body, heart and spirit, and obtain a profound spiritual experience with the founder of this internationally recognized and practiced method of Hatha yoga.

▲▼ BIO AND MORE INFO ON SHARON GANNON + JULES FEBRE

Sharon Gannon"MEET THE INNOVATOR...SHARON GANNON" (Yoga Journal , USA)
Jivamukti Yoga founded by Sharon Gannon, is one of the fastest growing and most highly regarded modern approaches to the ancient art of yoga. Sharon Gannon together with David Life have certified hundreds of students to teach the Jivamukti method through the intense one month residential 300 hour Teacher Training course which is offered each year in the US and in Europe. With her Yoga DVDs and the books "Jivamukti Yoga" (also translated into German, Russian & Italian), "The Art of Yoga", "Yoga and Vegetarianism" and "Cats and Dogs are People, too!," Sharon and David are changing the way that people view spirituality, life, themselves, each other, animals and the environment.

Sharon Gannon started her quest for liberation upon her birth on July 4th in Washington, DC.

JulesJules Febre is an internationally acclaimed Jivamukti Yoga Teacher. He began his practice at the age of 6. At the age of 13, Jules spent time traveling in India with David Life. During that time he was invited to share satsang with Swami Nirmalananda and Shyam Das, two radical yogis, as well as studying Ashtanga Yoga with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois - three beings that have each helped to add to the progression of yoga in the West. Spending most of the time these days on the road teaching classes, workshops and Jivamukti Immersions around the world, his guiding question is always: What is yoga asking of us? To use the practices in a way that will enable us to cause a shift in our consciousness, our perception and thus our world and the lives of those around us is his answer.

Check out these two nice videos with Jules talking about Jivamukti Yoga and chanting that were taken on his last Japan tour:

Sharon Gannon in Berlin

19.+20.12.2015:
First time in ages back in Germany = (y)our chance of a lifetime to meet

COUNTER-CULTURAL ICON BABA BHAGAVAN DAS + SRI SHARADA DEVI
Bhagavan Das Berlin

"We discovered the power of kirtan through Sharon's fascination with the ecstatic chanting of Bhagavan Das. She searched for all the information she could find about him. (...) Soon we were practicing asanas while listening to devotional chanting by Maharji's devotees (=Bhagavan Das et.al.). The music juiced up our own practice and so we felt it natural to share it with our students. We played his music to accompany the yoga classes we taught. (...) We never imagined, however, that these great singers would end up at the Jivamukti Yoga Center someday! (...) To be honest, we were a little apprehensive about meeting the man that Allen Ginsberg said, in his poem 'Ah, Bhagavan Das Singing' 'sits on floors to sing, closes his eyes and groans to God for hours, and can sing the blues, in Yogic Sanskrit like a perfect Virgin.'. Was the hype we had developed around Bhagavan Das for so many years going to match up to the real flesh-and-blood person? Well, Bhagavan Das came and gave the first of many concerts/satsangs at Jivamukti. He was everything and more than we had imagined." -- Sharon Gannon + David Life in Jivamukti Yoga - Practices for Liberating Body and Soul

With these legendary words from the final pages of the Jivamukti Yoga book in mind, it is with great humility and respect that we are announcing, that the great Baba Bhagavan Das & Sri Sharada Devi will grace Jivamukti Yoga Berlin with a trilogy of Kirtan+ Nada Yoga events which will extend the very same weekend that our dear teacher Sharon Gannon is blessing us with a Jivamukti Yoga workshop trilogy. A definite DO NOT MISS THIS! Come join us in Berlin for a full-on Jivamukti Yoga+Nada Yoga experience with some of THE Titans of Yoga. This maybe your (only) chance of a lifetime to experience this last living counter-cultural icon of the 1960s here in Germany.

▲▼ BIO AND MORE INFO ON BABA BHAGAVAN DAS + SRI SHARADA DEVI

Bhagavan Das Berlin

Teacher, performer, counter-cultural icon, lover of God, Bhagavan Das is as rich and manifold as Existence itself. He is the last living cultural icon of the 60's. As Ram Das's mentor and Guru (author of Be Here Now), he ushered in the New Age Spiritual Movement being the first Kirtan Artist in America. His groundbreaking album "Ah" (1971) produced by Jimi Hendrix's manager Michael Jeffrey's was the first World Music album from Electric Ladyland. Bhagavan Das has also toured with Allen Ginsberg, opened for the Grateful Dead and sang with Bob Dylan. Alan Watt's himself saying in a Rolling Stone review of the Album "Ah" that "Bhagavan Das is truly a Master of Nada Yoga". To experience Bhagavan Das in concert is to receive Darshan of the Guru himself, to touch and be touched by the immortal essence of his Guru Neem Karoli Baba- as the Light of the Guru is delivered through the mystical and potent voice of Bhagavan Das. His devotion to his Guru as that living inner sound is what he shares and transmits to all that wish to receive this blessing. Bhagavan Das's rare and sacred offering to this world is his singing open heart, heralding the Guru's Grace through the vehicle of Sound.

Bhagavan Das on Baba Bhagavan Das (Dharma Sara)
I left America for India in 1963 to find my Guru. I was the the first American to live in the jungle of the Himalyas as a hermit-sadhu. I was given the Holy Name of Ram by Bhramanada Saraswati through his disciple Mahish Yogi. I went off alone to the caves in the mountains to meditate. I then came to meet Swami Chaitanya Prakashananda Tirth who gave me tapas to fast and pray for God's Grace. After a year of fasting, prayer and intense purification I met my Sat-Guru the Great Mahasiddha Neem Karoli Baba. I then lived with my Guru, side by side for many years. Then one day because of the tantric path that he seemed to know I must travel and the many karmic connections due to ripen, he sent me away. So I went towards Tibet to go deeper deeper and then beyond with the last living Yogis from high in the mountain peaks of Tibet and Nepal. It was also during this time in 1971 that I met Sharada Devi who, I believe was still living her last life as a Tibetan Yogini. She was very old then and I was very young but our connection I feel was a promise to come together again due to the Grace of Neem Karoli Baba. During my time with the Tibetan Yogis I was the first to meet and live with Lama Kalu the Guru of the 16th Karmapa. He gave me the Essense Mahamudra Transmission, mind to mind. I recieved the Mother Light from His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche and then the Vajra Yogini directly from the Karmapa in Sikkhim. I lived with Yogi Chen who explained all the details to me in english in his hermitage in Kalingpong. When on pilgrimage to the holy Bodhanath Stupa in Kathmandu I met and became the Guru of Richard Alpert who was to become Ram Dass after I brought him to Neem Karoli Baba. I am here now by the grace of the Guru Dev Dakini. She is the Mother Light always guiding me on the true path of Bodhichitta. This is It for Now.
Sarava Mangalam
Bhagavan Das

Bhagavan Das (Dharma Sara) on Sri Sharada Devi (Drime Khandro)
"She has aspired to surrender her life in service to others stemming from the depths of her own suffering. I feel that she is here to help us transform our false sense of ego and self-pity into the jewel of pure love and compassion. I believe in her most recent past life she lived as a hermit-yogini in Tibet and so in this birth seeking and serving only the Living Vajra Guru has been her motivation and intention. She was given the name Dharma by a Tantric Master which began her many years of purification through sadhana and tapas. In 2006 we met in Los Angeles and her love for GOD and Guru Neem Karoli Baba brought her home to my heart cave. We married in 2007 and merged into the sound current of Divine Love in the Kirtan of the Holy Name. We now travel and share the blessings of the Mother Light Kirtan. She is the Wisdom Dakini dancing naked in the sky of my Heart-Mind. She is my Guru, showing me the depth of the shadow light and how to transform all darkness into the Bliss of Here Now. Sharada Devi is a Messenger of the Word and a Carrier of the Flame. Her voice is a Living Prayer for all of her children to be free. She is the Temple of the Mother Light."

Bhagavan Das playing live during an asana demonstration by Sharon Gannon (ca. 1994):
