JIVAMUKTI YOGA FOKUS DES MONATS: Unsere Eltern und unsere Yoga-PraxisJivamukti Focus of the Month

Each month Jivamukti Yoga has a special Focus of the Month, which is reflected in our yoga classes. Ever changing new inspirations help to change your perspective on the way of Yoga so you can come to new conclusions on your yoga practice.

▲▼ THE CURRENT FOCUS OF THE MONTH IN ENGLISH:

Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara
Guru Sakshat Param Brahma Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah

Our creation is that guru; the duration of our lives is that guru; our trials, illnesses and calamities is that guru. There is a guru that is nearby and a guru that is beyond the beyond. I humbly make my offering to the guru, the beautiful remover of ignorance, the enlightenment principle that is within me and surrounds me at all times.

from Guru Stotram

Guru means teacher, the enlightenment principle. The Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva symbolizes the process of creation, sustenance and destruction that all of manifestation is subjected to. Brahma is creation and refers to the circumstances of our birth, our parents, the relationship between our parents, the emotions and energies our mother exposed herself to during pregnancy and birth, and the culture and socio-economic circumstances. In this mantra, we are invited to look at all these aspects as a teaching.

In Western society, there has been an increasing trend towards individualization and single-handedly taking credit for everything we accomplish. We have forgotten the people who have opened doors for us, and we take any sacrifices our parents have made for us for granted. We have replaced gratitude with entitlement, and we no longer know the secrets of what holds an ecosystem, a community or a family together. We are all suffering in varying degrees from the disease of disconnect.

Some years ago, respect became confused with punishment and oppression, instead of an attitude of deep love, reverence and appreciation. We began to reject expressions of respect towards our parents, teachers and elders, and have stopped teaching it to our children. When students are asked to reflect on their parents, the mood tends to become very quiet, solemn and tearful. So many of us have heavy issues with our parents, and often have stopped talking to them altogether. We continue to live with unresolved pain and hurt lingering under the surface, until it is too late. A parent falls ill or dies. Misunderstandings, unskillful communication or abusive patterns are left in a puddle of darkness, confusion and regrets.

Some of us are in our eighties, our mother or father has been under the ground for 25 years, and still, day after day, we are making ourselves miserable thinking about what horrible things our mother or father did to us. We are still waiting for the deceased parent to apologize or somehow fix the situation, not realizing that the only person, who can relieve us from all of that suffering is us.

Yoga practice teaches how to reconcile the relationship from our end. The physical presence of the other person may not even be required. We train ourselves to be humble, get over false pride and see strength in making the first gesture towards reconciliation. Often, it is not even a matter of a huge drama or catharsis, but just a small energetic shift, comparable to actively engaging the spiraling movements in our thighs, lifting our inner arches or pressing our big toe mounds into the ground. These are small, almost invisible adjustments that will create a ripple effect through the whole body and bring the whole pose into balance. In the same way, a small internal shift brought about by setting an intention to look at one good quality in each of our parents, can totally change the relationship. Remember: any rift with our parents is a reflection of a rift within ourselves.

Harmonizing the relationship with our parents and our teachers is the key to managing all other relationships. We need to stop projecting outward, stop blaming, stop looking for fault and start by generating an energy of gratitude. We have to stop making exceptions that Yogic teachings only apply to certain situations, but not to others. We need to assume our responsibility in the conflict, and see it appearing from of our own projections.

Responding to any form of abuse, resentment will not lead us to liberation. Forgiveness is the only thing that will allow our hearts to become light. Forgiving is not so much about letting the other person off the hook, but it is about dropping the darkness that makes us sick and stops us from moving forward. Forgiveness is essential for spiritual growth. A famous quote by Martin Luther King Jr. says: “I have decided to go with love, hate is too heavy a burden to bear.”

When we are young, we see our parents as perfect, and when we grow up to be teenagers, our parents look like everything else than perfect. Yet, our expectation of perfection remains and creates a constant friction with our criticism. Can we perhaps accept that our parents always did their best, but may not always have been able to do this skillfully, because of the difficulties and suffering they encountered? Perhaps, if we ourselves are now a parent, we can see that being perfect all the time is an impossible task?

Sometimes parents forget that a child cannot be forced into the mold of their unfulfilled dreams. Sometimes, a mother is incapable of nurturing a child with maternal love, because of her own trauma. Still, she is doing her best. We may wish to see ourselves as totally different from your parents, but as we age, we may realize how much we are like them; we are a continuation of our parents, and our ancestors.

If we love our parents, we don’t have to say anything; our love is enough, and when they pass away, the love will continue, and there will be no regrets. Michael Franti gives us this beautiful contemplation: Your father is just an ordinary guy who fell in love.

▲▼ DER AKTUELLE JIVAMUKTI FOKUS DES MONATS AUF DEUTSCH:

Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara Guru Sakshat Param Brahma Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah

THE FIVE TENETS OF JIVAMUKTI YOGA

The body is called the field. He who knows it is called the Knower of the field.“ - BG XIII.1 Explore and practice the five tenets of Jivamukti Yoga as Anja combines the key postures and sequences of this internationally recognized style of Hatha Yoga to build a perfect vinyasa and lets you dive deep into the ancient techniques and teachings of Yoga. In this Jivamukti Yoga workshop, you will dive deep into the essence of Jivamukti Yoga and learn to know and practice its five tenets. And we will also take it a step further and seek to apply it all to our daily life. With a focus on śāstra, the study of the ancient yoga scriptures, we will explore the sādhanā that is given in the Gītā and learn what students of Yoga can do to put themselves in the right direction of truth at all times. In addition to setting an internal mood for our practice, we will be chanting from the scriptures, especially from the Bhagavad Gītā, and practice āsanas, prānāyāma and meditation. The Bhagavad Gītā is a text seen as one of the most important śāstras describing the spiritual sādhanā of the ancient Upaniṣadic teachings of the oneness of the Self. In chapter 13, Kṛṣṇa, the jagad-guru (Guru of the whole world), gives essential teachings on how to distinguish between the body-mind (which is made up of the five elements, the five sense organs, the five organs of action and the three components of the mind: manas, ahaṁkāra, buddhi) on one side and the supreme Puruṣa on the other side, which is the Absolute Reality and ultimately our true nature. To live in the spirit of that absolute light is the practice of the yogī, and all purifying practices are only there to remove avidyā, which binds us to a very limited experience of ourselves. Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gītā wants to be a student of Yoga. It is a new beginning. One has to put one’s efforts into the right direction and start planting the seeds for the ultimate enlightenment.

WALKING THE RAZOR’S EDGE

Sharp like a razor’s edge, the sages say, is the path, difficult to traverse. Those who realize the Self are forever free from the jaws of death. - Katha Upanishad As Yogis we should strive to walk the path of developing an all-embracing compassion that ultimately enables us to forgive anybody for anything. No matter who wronged us or how unfairly we have been treated, our goal should be to feel neither anger nor bitterness or even hatred in our hearts, because in the end, these feelings only work against ourselves as they separate us from our true Self, keeping us from the knowledge of being one with all. Sharp as a razor’s edge, the sages say, is this path to enlightenment, and difficult to walk without defecting from it. One needs superhuman endurance and superhuman determination to accomplish this goal, they say. Thus, we have to attain a state of consciousness in which we live free from all drama in a state of ever-present vitality that even transcends the constant change of time. Igniting and cultivation a blazing fire of life force, what we call prana, can help us reach this state. By practicing Jivamukti Yoga in a way that the founders of this method, Sharon Gannon and David Life, developed it, we can discover the source of prana within us and kindle it for good and all. This workshop contains all the elements that, in the eyes of many, make Jivamukti Yoga the “Wild Child of Yoga“. It is sequenced to spark our vital fire through yogic techniques like Pranayama, an intense asana practice and meditation in order to acutely work on creating a room within yourselves, from which we can develop the strength, power, endurance and serenity that we need to walk the razor’s edge in a state of realizing that all is one. Open for all levels.

Jivamukti Yoga Rügen Retreat

Anja KühnelANJA KÜHNEL = FACILITATOR JIVAMUKTI YOGA WEEKEND INTENSIVE & JIVAMUKTI IMMERSION
Anja has been a devoted student of Jivamukti Yoga founders Sharon Gannon and David Life since she first met them while temporarily living in New York. She has been directing her two Berlin Jivamukti Yoga Centers and their Jivamukti Apprenticeship Teacher Training program since 2008 and is a facilitator of the Jivamuktii Teacher Trainings.

If time allows, she accepts one of the many invitations to teach workshops worldwide. She also has been teaching intensive international Jivamukti Yoga retreats worldwide for a number of years now, often together with internationally renowned teachers like Sharon Gannon, David Life, Manorama and Dechen Thurman. Privately, she has a special interest in studying the teachings of Vedanta and Sanskrit and adopting rescued dogs.

Anja leads the 800-hour Jivamukti Yoga Apprenticeship Teacher Training program in Berlin where she has personally mentored and certified more than 40 Jivamukti Yoga apprentices over the past 10 years. She is regularly invited as a faculty or board member for the Jivamukti teacher trainings and Jivamukti Advanced board tests. In 2017, she was a facilitator together with David Life and Rima Rani Rabbath at the Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica and in November 2018 she will co-facilitate together with Yogeswari the German Teacher Training on Chiemsee (Bavaria), which in 2013 she simultaneously translated from German into English for the non-German participants.

Anja discovered her passion for Jivamukti Yoga in 2000 while living in New York. Back then, she also met her teachers Sharon Gannon and David Life for the first time. Anja has been practicing yoga with teachers of various yoga styles and traveled the world to do so. But in her heart, she knew right after her first Jivamukti class, where she belongs.

Living as a Yogi for Anja means to try to balance the disequilibrium between herself as part of human civilization and the world as a whole. In her classes, Anja strives to emphasize the yogic tenet that none of our doings, whether they remain thoughts or are actually carried out, are without impact to our surroundings. The direction, in which the world turns, is in the hands of each and every one of us.

The love of life, of all beings, and this world as a whole are what motivate Anja to teach yoga. The path of yoga gives every single one of us the chance to grapple with our inner selves and to find the harmony within us that we are longing for.

After more than 15 years of study with Sharon and David, Anja is more than grateful for all she has learned and all that she is still going to learn. "The only thing that gives me credibility as a yoga teacher is the graceful association with my teachers." - David Life

Luminous Shabda Retreat

"MEET THE INNOVATORS...SHARON GANNON AND DAVID LIFE" (Yoga Journal, USA)
Jivamukti Yoga founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life, is one of the fastest growing and most highly regarded modern approaches to the ancient art of yoga. Sharon Gannon together with David Life have certified hundreds of students to teach the Jivamukti method through the intense one month residential 300 hour Teacher Training course which is offered each year in the US, Costa Rica and/or Europe/India. With their Yoga DVDs and the books "Jivamukti Yoga" (also translated into German, Russian & Italian), "The Art of Yoga", "Yoga and Vegetarianism", "Cats and Dogs are People, too!", "Simple Recipes for Joy", Sharon and David are changing the way that people view spirituality, life, themselves, each other, animals and the environment.

Sharon Gannon David LifeSHARON GANNON started her quest for liberation upon her birth on July 4th in Washington, DC. Sharon views art as a means for uplifting the soul and her artistic pursuits enriched the community by educating and inspiring. In 1984 she shifted her main focus from the performing arts to teaching yoga in the hope of giving practical methods that would benefit people more directly and immediately. Sharon has studied yoga since 1976 with many teachers around the globe, most notably with Shri Brahmananda Saraswati, Swami Nirmalanada, Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, Swami Shankarananda, Shyam Das and Bhagavan Das. She brings a rare blend of scholarly study, artistic pursuits and a highly disciplined asana and meditation practice to her offerings as a teacher.

DAVID LIFE: Bios are hard for me to digest. The idea that a picture could be painted of me with some little list of factoids is untenable. The only thing that gives me credibility as a yoga teacher is the graceful association with my teachers. Sometimes I like to read bios because it tells me things about a person that I didn't know and to that end, here is a list of all the significant jobs that have come my way over the past 60 years, in order: Lawnmowing and snowshoveling, Paper delivery, Beer and Wine store stockboy, Forklift driver in Corrugated box company, Phone order taker, Dishwasher, Cafeteria manager, Welder in Steel MIll, Apartment building super, Silk screen production and designer, Graphic designer, Illustrator, Artist, Poet, Life Cafe owner, Yoga teacher, Bio writer!

Anja KühnelANJA KÜHNEL has been a devoted student of Sharon Gannon and David Life since she first met them while temporarily living in New York. She has been directing the two Berlin Jivamukti Yoga Centers and their Jivamukti Apprenticeship Teacher Training program since 2008. After 15 years of study with Sharon and David, Anja is more than grateful for all she has learned and all that she is still going to learn. Anja has been practicing yoga with teachers of various yoga styles and has traveled the world to do so. But in her heart, Anja knew immediately after her first Jivamukti class, that it was where she belonged. She teaches at her two Berlin Jivamukti Yoga Centers, is regularly invited as a guest teacher worldwide and leads the 800-hour Jivamukti Apprenticeship Teacher Training Program in Berlin. She has also been a regularly invited to mentor at the international Jivamukti Teacher Trainings and co-faclitates the June 2017 Costa Rica Jivamukti Teacher Training together with David Life and Rima Rabbath.

"The only thing that gives me credibility as a yoga teacher is the graceful association with my teachers." - David Life

Everyone is talking about Sharon & David's Jivamukti Yoga method….
“Sharon Gannon und David Life who founded their own yoga method called Jivamukti Yoga in the late 80ies and, with it, made Yoga for the first time ever socially acceptable for western urban dwellers. Among their students are Sting, Madonna, Christy Turlington and basically all other non-overweight famous american actors and musicians. Many speak about them as Gurus. With their mixture of old Indian tradition and modern lifestyle like rock music they were the ones who were majorly responsible for the Yoga boom, which from New York has long spilled over to Germany: Three million Germans are said to regularly practice Yoga these days ... in Berlin-Mitte it appear to be two million alone.'
--Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Germany
"David Life looks like Iggy Pop, is widely tatooed, has an incredible power in his stringy tiny arms and the great luck to have a woman on his side who has a delphine blue streak in her black hair and who is radiating a mild wisdom that makes one want to start crying immediately as soon as she opens her mouth. With their headsets, the two contrive to get every hall to boil.... – Oh My Guru!"
--DIE WELT, Germany
“..holistic vision extending to strict vegetarianism and hard-core animal rights activism'
--Vanity Fair USA
“David and Sharon have inspired and encouraged us to think of yoga not just as a system of exercises but also as a door to the infinite.”
--Sting
"It has the full package, more than just exercise. I always learn something at Jivamukti; they really educate the students."
-- Christy Turlington
“Without Sharon and David, yoga in the US would still be the obscure practice of a few devotees.”
--The New York Times, USA
“The pioneers of yoga in the United States, inspire us to appreciate life’s depth and breadth.”
--25, Japan
“Jivamukti Yoga offers the tantalizing promise of not only a well-toned body, but salvation too.”
--Hinduism Today, USA
“Es handelt sich dabei um eine kraftvolle Praxis, die Körper und Intellect stimuliert und zu spirituelleum Bewusstsein führen möchte.”
--Yoga Aktuell, Germany
“Meshing the spiritual and psychological elements of yoga with the physical ones, Jivamukti yoga forces students to confront both their bodily and emotional limitations.”
--Harpers and Queens, UK
“Lean, flexible, vegetarian, poetry writing, theosophist, celestial American yogis…their salutes to the sun are done by the stars.”
--Sunday Morning Post, Hong Kong
"These two pioneers, (Sharon Gannon and David Life) are consummate showmen as well as shamans, injecting yoga with a healthy dose of New York Chutzpah along the way."
--Vanity Fair USA
“Meet the innovators, David Life and Sharon Gannon are American originals who are shaping yoga today. Looking for a highly meditative but physically challenging form of yoga? Try jivamukti.”
--Yoga Journal, USA
“The shape of things to come.”
--London Observer, UK
“Lo yoga e uno stile di vita: fatto di meditazione, di posizione, di musica, canti, letture.”
--Corriere Della Sera, Italy
"There's a level of spiritual activism here. It's not just what you do on the mat. You are surrounded by it the second you walked into the door, and it's infectious."
--Yoga Journal USA
"Once you make Jivamukti yoga part of your life, you will look different to the world and the world will look different to you"

- -Yogi Times USA

"Gannon and Life work hard to show that yoga is not just about health and fitness, and that spirituality can be congruent with the high-energy, vibrant lifestyle of New York."
--Yoga Journal
"Jivamukti Yoga (which means "liberation while living") fuses Dynamic vinyasa, music, chanting, and the embodied commitment to yoga's ultimate goal, enlightenment."

▲▼ MORE INFO ON THE RETREAT LOCATION AND ACCOMODATION

Wild Woodstock Retreat

OUR LOCATION FOR THE YOGA CLASSES AND EVENTS:
Jivamukti Yoga co-founders Sharon Gannon and David Life open part of their home in Woodstock, NY (USA) for this special retreat. Here they have established the magical Wild Woodstock Forest Sanctuary which also holds a beautiful intimate yoga shala right next to their house where all yoga classes and events of this retreat will be held.

The Wild Woodstock Jivamukti Forest Sanctuary is a magical 125-acre sanctuary established in 2003 and located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains near Woodstock in upstate New York (about 2 hours north of New York City and 3.5 miles from downtown Woodstock).

The Sanctuary serves as a safe haven and unpolluted habitat for diverse plant and animal communities, including white tail deer, black bear, foxes, porcupines, possums, raccoons, turkeys, as well as a large variety of wild birds, fish, snakes and other reptiles and amphibians. In present culture, the word wild is usually used to mean "chaotic" or "disorganized," but the word actually means "living true to one's nature; not restrained, controlled or tamed by others." The quest for enlightenment is a quest for wildness—to return to the natural state in which we know ourselves as one with all that is and we live that truth fully.

Sharon Gannon often teaches that we can have anything we want so long as we are willing to provide it to others first. She and David Life live that teaching by having established and by maintaining the Wild Woodstock Jivamukti Forest Sanctuary, which is the country ashram for the Jivamukti Yoga School.

Wild Woodstock Retreat

YOUR ACCOMMODATION DURING THIS RETREAT will be provided in handpicked high quality properties/houses in the Woodstock area. All houses are shared (2 to 5 twin/double or single rooms in one property), i.e. you will share a common living area, a fully equipped self-catered kitchen and 1 to 3 bathrooms with up to 4-10 other retreat participants (depending on the size of the house, number of single rooms booked etc.). All properties and rooms are individual with their special treats so it is hard to compare them. We also offer a number of optional upgrades to the standard accommodation to better suit your individual requirements. Check registration form for details.

Wild Woodstock Retreat

BOARD DURING THIS RETREAT: All houses come with well equipment self-catered kitchens and are strictly vegan, i.e. no diary, egg or meat products may be brought into any of the houses.  The idea of this retreat is to also create a Satsang experience by cooking together delicious vegan meals in groups of likeminded vegan yogis. All houses will be equipped with a copy of Sharon Gannon’s cookbook “Simple Recipes for Joy”. For days/nights out, there are also some very nice vegan restaurants in Woodstock.

▲▼ GENERAL INFO ON THE YOGA PROGRAM & OTHER ACTIVITIES

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

BEING WILD, the underlying theme of this first of its kind retreat, in present culture, is usually used to mean "chaotic" or "disorganized". But the word actually means "living true to one's nature; not restrained, controlled or tamed by others". The quest for enlightenment is a quest for wildness - to return to the natural state in which we know ourselves as one with all that is and we live that truth fully. Reaching this state actually requires the oposite of "chaos" and "disorganization": A regular intensive yoga practice, not only asana wise but also by studying the other legs of yoga and having satsang with other like minded yogis and most importantly, your teachers.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

This is why we have designed this one of a kind Jivamukti Yoga Intensive Retreat in Woodstock in order to provide you the opportunity to immerse for up to two weeks in intensive dalily study and practice right from the source with the founders of the Jivamukti Yoga method. Every morning of this retreat, Sharon Gannon and/or David Life will teach a 4 hour intensive Jivamukt Yoga workshop from 10am to 2pm (ca. 3 hour asana practice and ca. 1 hour yoga philosophy teachings). These workshop style morning classes will be complemented by daily 2hour Jivamukti Yoga Open XL classes with Jivamukti Yoga Berlin director Anja Kuehnel and occassionally also other international Jivamukti Yoga teachers in the late afternoon and, occasionally Satsangs, Kirtans and other special events with Sharon Gannon, David Life, Anja Kuehnel and other presenters.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

Special Bonus Events: Approximately 1-2 times per week, we hope to offer special events in the late afternoon/evening, such as Satsangs or Kirtans or Yoga Philosophy lectures with Sharon Gannon, David Life and other presenters, which in some cases due to time constraints will be offered INSTEAD of the afternoon Open XL class (i.e. sometimes no Open XL class on special events days). Once during each of the two weeks of this retreat, we invite you to a Karma Yoga session to benefit the Wild Woodstock Forrest Sanctuary area. Exact daily schedule TBA at the retreat venue.

Sharon Gannon David Life Woodstock Retreat

Please note for your planning: On the arrival days there is NO morning class nor Q&A conference with Sharon Gannon and/or David Life, i.e. the first class on your arrival day is the afternoon class with Anja. This also applies if your arrival day is August 20 even though Sharon and David teach on this day in the morning, as this class is only for the people who also booked Part I of the retreat. On August 19 and 27 (final days), there is no evening class with Anja, last class on August 19 and 27 is the morning workshop with Sharon Gannon and/or David Life from 10am-2pm. If you booked both weeks, August 19 in the evening and August 20 in the morning provides a welcome opportunity to take "a day off" and explore Woodstock and its surroundings. For instance, you could visit Ananda Ashram or the Farm Sanctuary. Or go swimming.

As normal with renowned teachers like Sharon Gannon and David Life, the practice space included in this retreat strictly is the size of one regularly sized yoga mat (ca. 0,65x1,8m) only. All practice spots are marked and mats must be placed within the markers. You should bring your own yoga mat as there are only a limited number of rental mats. The yoga room has blankets and straps for your use. It also has a limited number of blocks. If you anticipate using blocks, please bring your own, as we cannot guarantee to have enough for everyone.

▲▼ TBA IN JULY 18: WELCOME LETTER BY ANJA FOR THE RETREAT + DETAILLED SCHEDULE + TRAVEL INFO

Dear Wild Woodstock Retreat participants!

Please find below a personal message for you from Anja along with an outline of the official schedule.

In case you booked shuttle services through us, please do get back to me at studentsupport@jiivamuktiberlin.de with your arrival time and arrival location where you would like to be picked up.

In case you booked housing through us (i.e. no discount for no-accommodation), please tell us your expected arrival times in Woodstock so we can organize the checkin schedule. Please note that checkin generally is at 3pm but we can maybe plan around that a bit if we know everyone's expected arrival time. Once we have this information, we will get back to you with further information on checkin.

This year, we are planning to also do a little bit of Karma Yoga in the Wild Woodstock Forrest in order to give back. For this, please bring with you a pair of suitable protective shoes and gloves (e.g. flimsy flip-flops or open-toed sandals, and bare hands would not be protective for someone hiking in the woods or picking up trash e.g. glass, garbage etc.)

To get in touch with other retreat participants (for example for car-sharing), you can use our Facebook events page: https://www.facebook.com/events/200185857004686/283448268678444

Remember to ensure that you fulfill the necessary requirements for entering the USA if you are travelling from abroad. I.e. you probably have to obtain a US Visa or ESTA Authorization before you travel. If you booked housing through us and are asked for an address in the US, you may just state the adress of the Wild Woodstock Sanctuary which is 3651 Route 212, Shady, NY 12409

Many greetings
Anne-Christine

Dear ones,

I am thanking all of you for making an effort to create the time and space to be together! We hold precious and dear in our hearts whatever we put our energy into. It is 100% up to us. Life is pulling us in all these different directions. It is wonderful that we are all meeting here at Sharon ji's and David ji's beautiful home and at the sanctuary they have created for the animals, plants and us human people, and that all of us together get the chance to immerse into our practice in this beautiful natural environment which is supporting us on all levels.
Let us put all of our love into what we do! Let us always remind each other that this is what truly matters in life. To uplift each other, to enjoy each other's company, to learn from each other, to see the beauty in each moment and to be grateful for the gift of life. Putting our prāṇa in what we truly care about: to be as natural and loving as one can possibly be, taking rest in our true nature, to truly be free and to serve with each breath.

लोका: समस्ता: सुखिनो भवन्तु ।।
May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.

Love.
Anja

▲▼ MORE INFO ON THE VENUE/LOCATION OF THE DAILY CLASSES - WILD WOODSTOCK FOREST SANCTUARY

Wild Woodstock Retreat

THE VENUE FOR THE DAILY CLASSES OF THE RETREAT:
Jivamukti Yoga co-founders Sharon Gannon and David Life open part of their home in Woodstock, NY (USA) for this special retreat. Here they have established the magical Wild Woodstock Forrest Sanctuary which also holds a beautiful intimate yoga shala right next to their house where The 2016 Jivamukti Yoga Wild Woodstock Intensive Retreat will be held.

Doors open 30mins before the classes. Please respect the Wild Woodstock Forrest Sanctuary and its inhabitants by keeping the noise level down during checkin and by not arriving much earlier than the doors open. Please bring your own mat if possible, other props (blocks etc.) are available in limited quantity. Please make sure to park your car properly and follow the instructions of the parking attendant.

Call or check online for fares and schedule. Check the schedule before traveling, as there may be seasonal and holiday changes!

Woodstock Taxi phone# 845-679-7766
The bus from NYC can take you to Woodstock (10 minutes from the Sanctuary) or to Kingston (20 minutes from the Sanctuary). Then you would have to take a taxi to the Wild Woodstock Forest Sanctuary (3651 route 212, Shady, NY) or to the location you will be staying at.

Some buses from NYC go all the way to Shady, which is where the Wild WDST Forest Sanctuary is, but you have to purchase your ticket in NYC to Shady, then you have to let the bus driver know where to let you off when you ask him or her to stop. Tell the driver, "in Shady, just past Church Road, near an old red barn."

The old red barn will be on the right side of the road just after the first curve of an "S" curve past Church Road. There will be a red mailbox with the numbers 3651 and a black & white painted wooden cat on top of the mailbox, the cat is pointing across the road to our driveway. Next to our driveway at the entrance to the sanctuary will be a tall pole with a winged Siamese cat on top and a sign that says "LIFE/GANNON." Also look for a white and black painted sign that says "YOGA" Walk all the way to the top of the driveway.

We suggest for first time visitors that you take the bus to Woodstock and call the taxi to bring you to the Sanctuary and not tell the bus driver to take you to Shady as you may get lost.
